Goldman Sachs Entrepreneurship Certificate Program


The Goldman Sachs Entrepreneurship Certificate Program is designed for women across Rwanda who are interested in either starting a business or expanding their start-up. The program will equip participants with the knowledge and skills needed to launch or expand a successful enterprise in Rwanda.

Financial Accounting and Loans session description:

This module will help the women entrepreneurs to understand their financial operations. Different strategies will be used such as lectures, inspiration talks (motivational talks), case studies, quizzes, assignment and group works. 
At the completion of this module, the participants will be able to understand some basic concepts of financial accounting. They will be shown how to determine their sales and costs in order to earn enough profit. Also participants will learn how to prepare financial statements in order to know their financial position and to make rational decisions. These financial statements also are requested by financial providers to be based on while evaluating borrowers; therefore they will help participants to get the funds for the growth of their businesses.

Outline of the key topics to be covered:
  • Look at the link between costs and sales, and to forecast sales and calculate break even point to know the number of items or the price should lead to profitability of a business.
  • Importance and preparation of financial statements such as cash flow, income statement and balance sheet and find out the relationship between these statements.
  • How a business person can assess the performance of his or her business, through the major quantitative ratios such as profitability ratios, asset utilization, liquidity ratios and debt utilization.
  • Learn how to approach a bank for a loan and choose the right bank, and see the requirements for a loan.
