The 30 women enrolled in the Goldman Sachs Entrepreneurship Certificate Program in Rwanda will return to Kigali Jan. 12 for a four-day session on financial accounting and loans. Brigitte Gafaranga, an assistant lecturer at the School of Finance and Banking in Kigali, will teach the session. This session is the seventh in the nine multiple-day sessions that make up the six-month program.

Robert Kennedy, WDI executive director and author of an upcoming book on offshoring, "The Services Shift: Seizing the Ultimate Offshoring Opportunity," was interviewed for a Dec. 30 Wall Street Journal article on 2009 business trends. The article was also mentioned in a U.S. News & World Report blog on business predictions for the New Year.

December 26, 2008

The latest session of the Goldman Sachs Entrepreneurship Certificate Program was just completed in Kigali, Rwanda. The three-day session on marketing and public relations ran Dec 22-24. There are three sessions remaining in the certificate program - Financial Accounting & Loans (Jan. 12-15); Cohort Consulting (Jan. 22-27); and Business Plan Presentations (Feb. 9-11).

For several years, WDI has been working in North Cyprus on a community-based tourism development initiative. An area of focus for WDI is the village of Buyukkonuk-Komi Kebir, which has been positioning itself as an “eco-village” with special interest, recreation and adventure activities. Under the Buyukkonuk-Komi Kebir Destination Development Project, a component of the USAID-funded EDGE Project, the village has built notoriety as a tourism destination, using a combination of tourism investment, product development and promotion as ways to develop itself.

WDI Executive Director Robert Kennedy was recently interviewed by BusinessWeek magazine about a new way to measure the impact of organizations that aim to solve the world’s poverty and health problems. The Portfolio Data Management System (PDMS) helps investors know whether their money is well spent and making a difference. Acumen Fund, who has partnered with WDI on some projects, has led a group of organizations to create this online database.
